I've never seen it before, it has a small spikelike attachment on the back. Picture from today,29-07-2011, on Jacobaea vulgaris, The Netherlands, southern part. It was about 4,5-5mm. Is an id possible?
Kind regards,
Pietsje Fleurbaaij

Edit: From the Dutch forum of www.waarneming.nl I know now that it is Elampus panzeri!

Hi Pietsje,

yes and no :D

I agree with the ID, but only if you follow Linsenmaier (1959).
Me (in my papers) and Niehuis (in Fauna.org, Fauna Germanica etc.) follow Móczár's interpretation (1964).
Thus the correct name should be Elampus constrictus (Foerster, 1853).
I found the type in Berlin (lost in one old paper box and unfortunately almost destried).
However this name should be changed again in the next future according to the my findings on other types.

In the Elampus case, it's always better to write (sensu Linsenmaier) or (sensu Móczár).

Regards
Paolo

Paolo,
Thanks for the explanation! You can change the title in the most appropriate name if you want. I shall pass this information to Theo Peeters, since he gave me the id.
Kind regards,
Pietsje

Hi everyone,

after a better examination of the pictures I can say that Theo was right and we can ID this specimen as E. panzeri sensu Móczár (1964).

Thanks Pietsje.
Regards
Paolo

Paolo, thank you :thanks: !
Contacts and networks are important in entomology. If I can be of any assistance (not by knowledge :( ) as a linking pin, no trouble. So we can learn more all together.
Kind regards,
Pietsje
