Chrysididae, C Spain --> Chrysura sp. (dichroa group)

Postby Piluca Alvarez » 21 Jan 2014 20:24

Found in the mountains of Madrid, feeding on Thapsia villosa on 23.06.2013. Very colourful but I am totally confused. Pictures are not good enough but genus might be possible to know ;) I am simply lost. Thanks for whatever input :D

So for the game.
For me it is a Chrysura belonging to the dichroa group. Although the thin anal margin blue :? :? :?

Greetings.

Hallo !

Yes Andrea is right, it's a Chrysura belonging to the dichroa group.
There are only few species in Spain, but it is difficult to be precise without other pictures.

The bluish margin is an other case of the Iberian colour "variation" in the Chrysididae :o (as in the case of the Chrysis splendidula posted by Manuel: viewtopic.php?t=25230).

Cheers

Great pictures!
I have nothing of value to add, just wanted to give some appreciation for posting all these nice pictures on the forum lately!
We havent had much western European content before, its great to see good pictures of the Iberian taxa, even the non-endemic species looks a bit different from central European specimens.

Gracias!

Andrea, Paolo, Alex :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: for the IDs and the comments 8-)

I have already posted most of the stuff I have, but all your help with ID can only be even a stronger encouragement to try to get as many Chrysidids as possible for the new season :wohow: I have no words enough to thank you for all your help :D

And Paolo, even if some specimens cannot be ID to species, it is still great to be able to say the genus for sure or the group of species it belongs to. Anything is much better than just 'Chrysidid'   and I appreciate those IDs just the same ;)

I still might find old pictures to fill the time till next spring. I cannot wait for it :wohow:

All the best

Hi Piluca,

you are always :welcome:

However we don't have to wait too much ... I mean the chrysididological season in Spain is coming very soon :slurp:

In Souther Spain the first specimens are already on wings in February :wohow:

And in South and central Spain they fly until October and November

Ciao!
