C. fasciata or indigotea?

Postby sitomeli » 17 Mar 2014 22:32

Hi all
in 2012 I took pictures of a green-blue chrysidid wasp (7-9 mm) in the northern part of Switzerland. Is it C. fasciata or C. indigotea?

Very nice, its should be a Chrysis fasciata, note that it has a extra lateral teeth or angle on each side of the T3, making it 6 toothed. C. indigotea and C. iris only have four teeth.
There are several other characters that differentiate C. fasciata from these species, head shape for example.

Hi yes,

Alex is right.
The question could be:
is it fasciata or equestris? In Southern Europe the females of these two species almost have the same greenish-bluish colour, without red golden stripes, but from N Switzerland to N Europe Chrysis equestris females can be often recognized based on the colour.

Ciao
