Chrysis

Postby Grijzezeehond » 18 May 2014 15:04

Today I saw this specimen in my garden in Belgium.
It looks like a Chrysis ignita, but what about this dark spot on the abdomen?
Can someone help me to identify?

Hi Kurt,

nice shot.
You're right, it belongs to the Chrysis ignita group.
The abdomen seems to be really darken, but I cannot say more.
Did you collect the specimen?

Cheers
Paolo

No I did not collect the specimen, but I see it regularly. I'll try to take pictures from different angles, or should I go binocular? Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment :-(

Other pictures of the same Chrysis ignita... I guess.
I could collect the specimen if I see it again.

He's here again, the C. ignita-complex with the black-blue spot on the abdomen. Does anyone have an idea?

Males in the C. ignita are quite often coloured like this, the darkening of the metasoma is seen other genera like Omalus as well

I have no idea what species it belongs to though, males are very hard to ID
