Can this one get a name?

Postby Martin Bjerg » 26 May 2015 17:42

From Denmark. A dozen emerged from some seasoned populus-wood taken inside to breed beetles. Around 7 mm.

:welcome: Martin,

thanks for your nice Plate.
It looks like a Pseudomalus auratus (Linnaeus),
however, in Denmark there's an other similar species: Pseudomalus triangulifer (Abeille).
The latter is recognizable by antenna long and slender, with medial flagellomeres longer than broad (l/w> 1) and apical notch of T-III triangular, not deeper than broad. I cannot see these characters from the Plate, but you could examine at the microscope.

Cheers
Paolo

Hi Paolo.
Thanks for reply. Try to put it (and a couple of its "friends") under the microscope to decide whether it's Pseudomalus auratus or triangulifer.
Here an additional specimen, less colourfull.
Greetings Martin

Thanks again. Did suspect that it was to different species or male/ female. To species, both new to me, are ok. Checked the first one under microscope; medial flagellomeres longer than broad, significantly but not much, so Pseudomalus triangulifer. Couldn't find out which one was T-III, so this I didn't check.
