Postby Equestris » 25 Jun 2017 16:30

Hi All,
I am a new of this forum. My name is Lukas Fiala. And I started collected and study of Chrysididae before few year ago. I am not a great specialist but I am learning and trying to understand this group.

Here is my the firt topic and it is Spinolia unicolor from Czech republic, South Moravia near Znojmo.
It is a very impressive northern species.
This species I have been following for several years. My information are that South Moravia is the southernmost expansion this species. I was study this specis more more free time and it Is very specific.
The species was observed in June, July and August. In all this time was his aktivity very specific. All this months are warm. And it was very good to see how great the heat of this kind really bothers and does not suit...All the best temperature for this species was about 20-27C... In these temperature was high activity. The best of time for this species in these months was 9-11 hours. If was cloudy and not more warm weather his activity was all days. The most exepmlare was finding on the big stone, something on the ground, on flying and only 4 exemplare was siting on the flowers.

Thank you and all the best,
Lukas

:welcome: Lukas!!!

Glad to see you on chrysis.net!

Your pictures and data sheet of Spinolia unicolor are simply great!!!
We know only few data on the biology of this species (see Kunz 1994 and Saure et al 1998), and your data are very important.

Thank you so much for sharing on the forum :thanks:

You should think about a short publication, it is worthy

Cheers
Paolo

Nice information and welcome to the forum! :welcome:

Are you looking out for the eumenine wasp Pterocheilus phaleratus, which is the suspected host of S. unicolor ? Would be interesting to hear about any observed interactions at the nests between these two species.

Hi all,
Ï have a new infomration for you!
Today I was all day on my place of Spinolia unicolor....And today was very very interesting for last 3 years, really.
The first active Spinolia was 8:30( 22C) and activity was to 11 oclock(28C). They are mainly siting on the stone and siting on the ground and 1 ex on the flying. In these time nothing on the flower. BUT between 11:00-12:00 I see more, more exemplare on the flowers, yes on the flowers! Only on the small Achillea That was not real, it was fantastic. :o But I saw this and experienced it for the first time in 3 years!!
I was as always all day. I have not seen any specimen ever since.

And secondary, I saw Pterocheilus phaleratus ... interesting is that I saw Spinolia In a hole in the ground and secondary in the same hole was Pterocheilus phaleratus[/ . The now I can confirm interactions at the nests between these two species.
