IMPORTANT! The Natur-Museum (Luzern) is going to be closed

the Canton Lucerne (Switzerland) is announcing the intention to close both the Nature and Historical Museums in order to reduce the canton's debt.
This closure would be highly damageable for the preservation of the scientific collections of both museums, which represent the historical and biological heritage of the canton and of Switzerland as well. In particular, the "Natur-Museum Luzern", which is involved on both education and research, is a key element in the Swiss network of institutions dedicated to the study and preservation of the local biodiversity.
Moreover, the Natur-Museum is the depository of the Walter Linsenmaier collections. It includes thousands specimens of all insect orders and the well known Chrysididae collection. The Chrysididae collection is the most important collection in the world for number of primary types, species and specimens deposited. Still in the last years, all European scientists deposited type vouchers in this collection, because is undoubtely considered the main reference for all researchers. For this reason, the Natur-Museum played an importan rule in the preservation of the collection and its uncertain future is a problem for the whole European scientific community.
