Re: Hedychrum from Belgium

... specimens by photos. The only way is that you collect more female specimens and examine the shape of the last sternite. Often H. nobile and H. niemelai fly together in the same site. Therefore you should collect more specimens. In my experience, the larger specimens are always only H. nobile ...

Hedychrum from Belgium

Hello,

Yesterday I found some chrysidids within a Cerceris arenaria colony. After some research I think it should be Hedychrum nobile or H. niemelai. However, I can't find what the differences are to distinguish both species. So it would be great if someone could help me with that.

Re: H. nobile/niemelai

:welcome: Jeroen!

You're absolutely right. It is not possible to ID this male specimen from the picture.

My personal feeling (based on the robust habitus) is that could be H. nobile, but this ID is not confirmed.

Cheers

H. nobile/niemelai

I fear that there is no way to be sure of which one this was. But you're the experts.
Anyone?

It was photographed in the Netherlands (Nijmegen) on June 20.

Thanks!
Jeroen

Re: In the garden

... much for this information! Of course Halictus could not be the host of Hedychrum spp. It was only a very old citation. On the other hand, Cerceris spp. are well known as hosts of different Hedychrum : nobile , niemelai and gerstaeckeri . This is not a scientifical evidence, but it is ...

Re: Hedychrum nobile ?

In that case its very likely H. nobile, as I dont think H. niemelai gets that big.
